The University of Alabama at Birmingham just released their findings from a study that took a good look at the link between the users of Viagra and the reporting of tinnitus developing after use. The study is in the May 18th issue o the Archives of Otolaryngology.
For the uninitiated, Viagra is in a class of drugs that are most often used to treat erectile dysfunction in men. Two other drugs used for this are Cialis and Levitra, however only Viagra was included in the study.
The study looked at 11,500 men over the age of 40 for the period 2003 through 2006. The study was triggered by the reports of 29 cases of sudden hearing loss attributed to tinnitus by Viagra users. The FDA now requires that Viagra be repackaged to include the warning it may be connected to sudden hearing loss with regular use.
If you’re taking Viagra or have taken it on a regular basis and you’re having symptoms of tinnitus such as ringing, roaring, clicking or buzzing that especially is noticeable in a quiet environment, take the time to have yourself checked out by your primary care physician. Most tinnitus can be managed and often cured through natural methods.
